Title: How the brain makes memories Rhythmically
Date: 10/11/2011
Summary (8-10 sentences) The brains learning capability increases based on the strength of its synapses. In this study they have found out that you can change the rhythm of your brain like a car radio. There is an optimal frequency for every stage of learning. So having your brain on the highest frequency doesn’t work. Bad memory is caused by the synapses of the brain not being on the right frequency. Mehta the lead scientist said, “Spike frequency refers to how fast the spikes come. Ten spikes could be delivered at a frequency of 100 spikes a second or at a frequency of one spike per second.” The change between the strengths of synapses is called a spike train. Spike trains are “Series of Neural signals that occur with varying frequency and timing.
What you found most interesting about the article and why (4-6 sentences)
That scientists are discovering interesting information about the brain still. That you can change how your brain works like you do a car radio. There are a lot of things within the brain that I don’t know about yet. Little things like how many brain synapses you have or how close your “frequency” is can change your life dramatically.
